Text Box: “It’s time for the world to unite and stop the unjust killing and torturing of our fellow human brothers and sisters.“ Text Box: Currently more than 400,000 innocent civilians have been brutally murdered in the Sudan region of Darfur. An estimated 2.5 million civilians have been internally displaced as a result of the indiscriminate destruction caused by the Janjawid militia and other government sponsored militant groups. An internally displaced person is not a refugee, which is a common misconception among many, but a person who has fled their home and forced to stay within their national border. Text Box: 200,000 Darfur civilians have crossed the border into Chad seeking refuge from Janjawid invaders. Violence has now spread into Chad where over 55,000 Chad civilians have fled their homes. It’s estimated that more than 500 people die every day in Darfur, which comes out to roughly 15,000 innocent civilians every month. Continuous gang rapes, murders, torturing, and missile targeting of civilians are just a few of the horrendous crimes being committed daily by militias that are endorsed by the Sudanese government.

Text Box: Small Schools: 411 Text Box: Like many of my peers, the stories and rumors regarding Oregon’s Small School Initiative have me a little worried. As a current Junior, the Initiative will have little overall effect on the Text Box: members of my graduating class when it is put into effect next year. However, it will affect the rest of the Crater student body. Rest assured, we do have a voice in this process. Every month a group of Text Box: students called the Small Schools Student Advisory Team meets to discuss issues regarding the implementation of small schools.
