An enormous round of applause goes out to the cast of Black Comedy, a play recently preformed by the Crater thespians. “Black Comedy” is a British comedy that takes place during a blackout on a London flat owned by a poor, aspiring artist named Brindsley (Zach Merritt). This particular evening he is expecting a rich German named Georg Bamberger (Trey Allen) who has taken a liking to Brindsley’s sculptures and his fiancé’s father Colonel Melkett (Daniel Fish). On the eve of Bamberger’s visit, Brinsley’s neighbor Harold (Tyron Player) is out of town, he decides to “borrow” Harold’s furniture and a few pricey antiques to spice up his flat. blackout strikes, bringing with it identity mix-ups, confusion, and Miss Furnival (Alexandra Schireman) a “proper” lady neighbor. Little does Brindsley know that his current girlfriend Clea (Stephanie Baker) is in town and drops by for a little more than just a visit. Carol’s curiosity of Clea’s past with Brindsley is answered in the worst possible way. He tells Carol layers of lies that give in quickly, because in reality Clea is hidden away in his bedroom. Harold, who got home early from his trip only added to the confusion in a very “special” way. The repairman, Schupanzig (Flo Lohoff) is mistaken for Bamberger, and then when the real one shows up, they are all left in the dark about the truth (if there is any). |
