November 6 , 2006 Minutes of FFA Alumni Committee
The meeting was called to order by President Lyn McGoffin at 7:05 pm.
26 members and guests were present.
The group joined the chapter to watch a slide show of Crater chapter members who attended the FFA National Convention in Indianapolis, Indiana. We then reconvened for our regular meeting.
The October minutes were approved as read.
Lyn McGoffin announced that February 17 kicked off FFA Week and he wondered if our group wanted to do something in recognition of this event. Kath McGoffin proposed getting the students involved to do something for the community in appreciation of their support of FFA. Members are to think about ideas and discuss them at the next meeting.
Randy White announced that the annual Soils and Water Conservation District Banquet is scheduled for February 9, 2007.The Alumni Committee plans to provide the barbecue again as a fund raiser. Doreen Costelow stated we cleared $1,200.00 last year. We will hold a silent auction during this event. If members have items they wish to donate they should contact Chrissy Reynolds.
Lyn McGoffin read a letter from a chapter member thanking the committee for their support of her SAE project.
Lynn Gladman announced a brief scholarship committee meeting would be held immediately following our regular meeting.
Advisor, Jim Miller briefed the committee that the Greenhand/Chapter Degree Potluck Night would be held at 6:00 pm on December 6. Students would be assigned potluck items to bring and were to wear their official dress. Parents are encouraged to attend. He also announced that Miss Patterson was the new land lab supervisor and that Alfredo Salazar, a school grounds keeper had been assigned to work full time at the land lab two days each week. Lyn McGoffin added that he was still working on bringing the electrical panels at the land lab up to code. Nina Boaz questioned the care of the pasture and Jim indicated the pump had been broken preventing adequate watering. Jim gave an update on Nationals stating that the Ag Mechanics team placed 15 th and earned two golds, one silver, and one bronze and Jared Murphy had received a $500 scholarship. He also stated he had used grant funds to purchase eleven new computers, some needed shop equipment and repair a projector. He further stated that students needed to pay their annual dues.
Doreen Costelow raised the issue of the leftover water bottles purchased for state convention. Following discussion, Lynn Gladman moved and Leon Callahan seconded a motion to sell cases of water bottles for $5. Motion passed.
Chapter officers, Thomas White and John Gladman gave a brief presentation requesting Alumni Committee help to decorate the Christmas tree donated by the chapter to the Crater Foundation Scholarship Dessert. Last year the chapter tree was auctioned for $1,200.00. Kathy McGoffin moved and Nina Boaz seconded the motion to donate $200 to this endeavor. Motion passed.
The meeting wad adjourned at 8:05 pm.
